Who I am

I’m Manuel Rodriguez, a systems architect in Victoria, British Columbia. I was born in La Paz, Bolivia, studied systems engineering there and computer science at the University of Oklahoma, and have spent twelve years building software where the data is sensitive and the stakes are real: clinical applications at Cerner, BC’s Health Gateway, citizen-facing services across four provincial ministries. Today I lead the technical side of BC’s Authoritative Data Registers program and, through my company Teknios, build Nexus — a household appliance that keeps a family’s data under its own roof.

The through-line: when data is regulated and sensitive, “just put it in the cloud” isn’t an answer. Someone has to architect systems that are secure, auditable and under the owner’s control — and build them properly. I design at the level of the token, the API contract and the operator, and I prove designs by building them.

I work in English and Spanish. My graduate research was in neural networks and computational neuroscience, so local AI isn’t a bandwagon for me; it’s a return to where I started.

Now
